Italy 2012

A new year is knocking on our doors yet again. It seems that the years zoom by faster, the older I get! And since I'm sitting here with a drippy nose and sinus pain, I rather just show you pretty images than write a bunch of stuff that probably won't make sense ;-).

Here's a little look at our Italy vacation. We road-tripped for 7 days, four of them were spend in the Cinque Terre area. It was simply BEAUTIFUL!! If I could do it all over again, we would take the train/bus/boat (whatever it takes) to go directly to Corniglia. Driving in Italy was difficult, street signs were non-existent in small villages and we got lost, a lot.

Our first stop was in a tiny village near Cernobbio, Italy.

The next day we drove to Corniglia, Italy. This is the smallest, least desirable village in Cinque Terre. I always pick the odd place, since we really don't like crowds and love experiencing the locals. This was PERFECT for us. Corniglia is tiny, you can literally walk across the entire village in five minutes. But if you want to go down to sea level, be prepared for stairs! The first set of pics shows our walk to the small, rocky beach. I about died on the walk back up, lol. And both girls got their feet cut up while swimming. If you ever go to Cinque Terre, bring swim shoes (wish somebody had told me).

Enjoying the evening sky. Looking over at Manarolo.

Day 3 was spent at the beach in Monterosso Al Mare. Most touristy of the five towns. Not my fave, but Grace enjoyed swimming in the sea.

Day 4 we train-hopped. First Cornigila to Riomaggiore (seen below). From there we walked the "Via dell'Amore" to Manarolo. That was an experience. The walls are full of graffiti, love notes, poems. And there were locks everywhere! Apparently it's a costum to seal your love with a lock during this walk (we didn't have one!! I hope Brian and I will be okay ;-)!

Then we took the train to Vernazza. This village was most affected by the devastating landslides in October 2011. We did some tourist shopping here, since we really wanted to support this place. The mood was amazing, everybody seemed happy and upbeat. Locals were happy to share stories of the storm.

Back in Corniglia, Grace dancing in the streets. By day 2, we were already greeted with lots of "Bon Giorno's" and "Ciao's". Friends are made easily here. We never wanted to leave.

Our favorite restaurant! And a few examples of stairs... there's only one way to go when your perched upon a rock... down!!

On our way back to Switzerland, we had two more pit-stops. First up was Borgo Priolo. Yet again a place out in nowhere-land that we could barely find, lol. This place was simply gorgeous! But it lacked personal warmth. After four days in Corniglia, this just didn't measure up. Yes, the place was charming, the pool was perfect, the rooms furnished with vintage dreams. But the food was too fancy, they didn't even serve soda (oh, I was craving a diet coke!), the mosquitos ate us alive, wifi wasn't working and everything was too quiet!

Last stop was in Bellinzona, Switzerland. We marched up and down another few hundred steps to see the castle =). I think we were all worn out at this point, plus it was super humid.

Wow, that's a lot of pictures in one blog post. But I couldn't narrow them down even more!! Thanks for looking!!

Merry Christmas!

I hope you're all enjoying tons of peaceful family time. I'm trying to unplug and be present. My girls are growing up so fast, I feel like I need to soak up every minute that they actually want to spend with me =).

I need your help! Matilda Jane Photo Love Contest "Loyal"

Today is the last day to vote! I can't win this without your help =), so if you have a minute, would you head over HERE and vote? I would so appreciate it! Please make sure to click "submit" on the last page, your vote doesn't count until you get a "vote receipt". Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

And if you have three more minutes, you could watch this video that my 13 year old put together for me =). I'm such a lucky mom, my girl surprised me with this yesterday. She carries her point & shoot indestructible camera on almost all our outings and I never know what will show up in a movie! You can actually see the moment when the "loyal" image happened... it was totally unplanned, I just took Grace and Macho for a walk to see what I could capture. And then he went in for a snuggle. I clicked. And I got lucky. Loyal was created =).

The video quality isn't that fabulous and her filming a bit shaky, but I still love it!

TIME TO VOTE!! * Matilda Jane Photo Love Contest *

I still can't believe that my image of Grace & her Macho Boy made it to round 3 of Matilda Jane Clothing's Photo Love Contest!!! I'm incredibly thankful to have made it this far. I'm usually not a huge contest participant, but this one is close to my heart. I've been in love with Matilda Jane since 2008, they create the most adorable clothes that make my girl feel extra special. But it's not just about the clothes, it's about their giving hearts, how they spread the love wide and far. I just love them to pieces.

It would mean the world to me to move from top 11 to top 3. That's where you come in, I can't do this one alone. See, only the three images with the most votes will have a chance at winning it all. Please read the instructions below.

Instructions for voting:

1. Click the link above
2. Click "VOTE"
3. Fill in your name and email, click "Continue" at the bottom of the page
4. Click "Submit" at the bottom right of the page (this is important, vote will not count unless you hit "submit")
5. If you see a "Vote Receipt", you're done!

You can only vote once from every IP address, so if you happen to be at Starbucks, the library or at work, I would totally appreciate a second vote!

Bubbles!! El Cerrito, CA Children's Photography

I just have to share these images from tonight's session... they are too much fun to keep to myself!

So we were at the park, shooting Sebastian's 4 year pictures... and we noticed two bubble makers... they made GIANT bubbles!! It was amazing to watch! Sebastian and his best friend had a BLAST running through these bubbles. I had so much fun capturing them. Pure joy & excitement on their faces!!

Matilda Jane Photo Love Contest * Loyal

Instructions for this part of the Matilda Jane Photo Love Contest: "In Round 2, we ask you to take this outfit and style it to match the word you have been given."

Oh boy, did we lock out. Our word was LOYAL. Grace had a plan immediately. And I went along for the ride (ha, no pun intended). So meet Macho! He's a loyal friend to Grace. Apparently the most loyal thing in her life, since he popped to mind first.

I had to choose just ONE image to send in. It was tough!! Super duper tough, actually!!! After a little help from friends, a decision was made... and strange enough it was the first image that I edited, because it stood out to me in an emotional way.

Now we wait and see. I'm excited I made it this far. Top 10 would be amazing... one can dream, right?
